Since the beginning of August 2005 the Römerbergwerk Meurin near Kretz has gained a new dimension. A film in the most modern 3-D-technology is the newest attraction in Vulkanpark. When the Romans come back to life with „Lapis iacta est“ the visitors are transferred back into the dark and dusty working world of a mine 2000 years ago. The film allows the viewers to participate in the events up close. The main focus of the film is the separation or rather the break up of a large tuff cuboid from the natural rock formation in a dark tunnel incorporated into a story line. In the company of a foreman and the two stone-breakers Marcus and Gaius the visitors journey into the dusty and dangerous working world of the largest Roman underground tuff mine north of the Alps.

An unused part of the mine was darkened for the cinema and furnished with a projection screen. The 3-D film was shot at night in the Römerbergwerk with great technical effort, a professional team of technicians and a film crew as well as 3 actors. The most modern digital exposure and projection techniques and a projection screen with a screen size of 5 metres allow the viewers to get the impression that they are right in the middle of everything and that they are looking over the Roman miners’ shoulders.

With this film the Vulkanpark GmbH would like to transport you into the world of Roman mining as vividly and realistically as possible. During the 10-minute 3-D film a story line takes place as it could have taken place 2000 years ago at an authentic Roman mining site. The language spoken by the persons involved is Latein. There are no subtitles which poses a real challenge for every Latein teacher. Because what the persons say is not given away. But in addition to all the learning the visitors do not miss out on entertainment. The viewers can expect several surprises.

The film can be seen at the Römerbergwerk Meurin (Tues. to Fri. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Sat./Sun. 11:00 am to 6:00 pm) always at the top of every hour and at every half hour. |
