Since the season’s opening 2006 the Vulkanpark Infozentrum Rauschermühle has come up with a new highlight: The new film „Stone-Ages“ explains the 7000-year history of stoneworking in the volcanic East Eifel. The informative and at the same time fascinating piece of work provides the viewers an insight of the various time periods and development stages of the “rocky history of industry.

With the professional film adaptation „Stone Ages“ the Vulkanpark GmbH has succeeded in adapting the subject of stone history in a popular scientific manner. An impressive documentary was created with feature film characteristics which documents the mining history of valuable rock deposits and which refers to the uniqueness of the East Eifel region.
Six chapters explain over 7000 years of discovery, mining, processing as well as the application of basalt, tuff, pumice and slate in the volcanic East Eifel. Starting from the development of the countryside and the massive explosion of the Laacher Sea Volcano 13.000 years ago, the visitors are impressively shown the life of the people with and from volcanic rocks during the New Stone Age, the Age of the Celtics and Romans, the Middle Ages and during modern times.
The half-hour film „Stone Ages“ can be seen in the newly furnished cinema at the Infozentrum Rauschmühle. Nostalgic wooden folding chairs which are characteristic for old cinemas offer seating for 30 persons and invite the visitors to take a journey to truly “stony ages.
