Travel barrier free through the Eifel volcano landscape –
A new CD ROM gives disabled people lots of tips for days out.

“Give it a try, its well worth it!” This is the name of the latest project from Regina Pickel-Bossau, chairwoman of the disabled advisory committee in Andernach, who wishes to give disabled people better access to the world of volcanoes.

In cooperation with the Vulkanpark GmbH she has created a CD guide which offers a multitude of tips for trips in the Eifel region. With a great deal of commitment the volunteer worker Regina Pickel-Bossau explored all the designated routes and attractions of the Eifel and described her experiences from the viewpoint of a physically disabled guest.

The Eifel is the youngest volcanic area in central Europe and has undergone a fascinating geological development. There are many craters, cinder cones, maars etc. which bear witness to the explosive history of the region. The observer is given diverse opportunities to take a look beneath the earth’s surface.

Regina Pickel-Bossau from the disabled advisory committee Andernach is very intent upon allowing the physically disabled access to this spectacle and the fascination of the Eifel volcanism. Together with her husband she has visited the highlights of the Eifel – The Volcano Park in the district Mayen-Koblenz, the volcano parks Brohtal/Laachersee and the Vulkaneifel European Geoparks and tested how suitable they are for disabled visitors. She provides many recommendations for museums, landscape projects, restaurants and pubs, suggests car touring routes and supplies addresses for tourist information centres.

For a contribution to expenses of €4 the Volcano Park guide on CD ROM is available at the Information Centre Rauschermühle in Plaidt/Saffig, at the Roman mine Meurin near Kretz and at the Lava Dome in Mendig. Printed copies can be viewed at all locations.
