Karmelenberg

The Karmelenberg completes the group of East Eifel cinder cones in the south-east. A widely visible outcrop allows a view into its interior. In the last two centuries volcanic lava has been extracted here for building purposes. However, humans have been active on and around the Karmelberg for much longer. On the neighbouring Schweinskopf a Neanderthal encampment was discovered. Art memorial fans also have something to view here, on top of the Schweinskopf stands the oldest baroque chapel to be found in the region of Koblenz. You can read about the history of the chapel and information about the Kamelenberg while walking the circular route.
